Most people would agree a child to be abandoned is a terrible tragedy in this fallen world. Yet in modern society the genocide of the unborn child is an epidemic. It is the deliberate abandonment and deliberate destruction of a human life. Psalm 27:10 speaks of this and of the welcoming gathering into Himself of The Father.

During the Hebrew month of Elul and the 40 days of Awe, Psalm 27 is read twice a day every day. The Hebrew text reveals such treasures to us as we fall in love ever deeper with our LORD. We find we are His cherished treasure hidden in Him, concealed, panneled in within Him, as a babe within the womb and lifted up in Christ in His place of authority over all satanic powers Selah. Shalom.

During the month of Elul Psalm 27 is read twice a day every day. What richness is in this Psalm. Today we are looking at verse one. Yahweh is my light "ohr" in Hebrew meaning illumination and the light of the Presence of GOD shining from His Countenance.( See Psalm 4:6 and Numbers 6:24-26)
The light in Genesis 1:3 was not physical light. The sun was not created until Day 4 of God's Creation. That light was the manifest Presence of GOD. In John 8:12 The LORD Jesus declares He is THE Light. David declares HE The Light is his personal light. Is The LORD Jesus your personal light? David does the same with the word salvation, "yishi" in Hebrew. Is The LORD Jesus your personal Saviour? Whom shall I fear in English does not convey the rich meaning here in the Hebrew text. Here the word for "fear" is "yara" which means the loving respect and devotion and is symbolised in the sweet fragrance of honeysuckle.
The word "afraid" at the end of the verse is a completely different word "parchad" meaning "intense terror". The word for strength in this verse is "ma'oz" meaning inpregnable stronghold or fortress, a mighty rock. A Hebrew song, sung at Hanukkah, is "Ma'oz Tzur" meaning Rock Of Ages. So we could paraphrase Psalm 27:1 as Yahweh gives me light from His shining face and is my Saviour Whom I do so lovingly respect with sweetness of the honeysuckle. He is my own Rock of Ages. Of whom therefore shall be in terrorr from?

Once a year in the month of Elul, the king would come into the field.
He would leave his palace and go out among his people. He would set up his royal tent in the field near a town and all who wanted to see him were welcome.
The announcement was made:" The King is In the Field".
They were all welcome to come just as they were… no dress code, no protocol, no intimidation. The king receives them all with a smiling face and a radiant countenance, desiring to hear their concerns. The weary, dusty hard working peasant behind his plough has access to the king in a manner unavailable to the highest ranking minister in the royal court when the king is in the palace.
Let’s look at a couple of Biblical examples of kings in the field. 2 Chronicles 19 is about king Jehoshaphat going into the field. Verse 4 says “So Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem and went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and brought them back to the LORD, the God of their fathers.” The king went into the field to turn the people’s hearts back to the Lord — restoration of their relationship with their Creator and LORD.
Another king who went out into the field is Melchizadek in Genesis 14. Melchizadek gave Abram bread and wine and blessed him saying: “Blessed is Abram by God and Blessed is God who delivered your enemies into your hand.” When Abram was weary from battle, king Melchizadek came into the field to strengthen and refresh him. He blessed Abram.
Of course, the greatest King who left His throne to come into the field was The LORD Jesus Christ, Yeshuah Himself . He lived in our field of life in this world in a tent of mortal flesh. He was God made flesh, made accessible, smiling and radiant. He came to manifest God’s goodness, love and righteousness… to heal and deliver ALL who would come to Him. He came to draw us into a restoration of relationship with the Father. That’s what it looks like when the king is in the field. He is the King of kings. (Revelation 19:16)
Revelation 1:6 says He made us kings and priests. We are in the field of the world. What should that look like? We should be walking among the people, receiving them with a smiling face, listening to their concerns and like Jehoshopat reconciling them back to God by manifesting His righteousness and love towards them….. Philippians 2:5-11 says we are to have the same mind of Messiah, Who laid aside His majesty and took the form of a servant being obedient to the will of The Father and in His death and resurrection has opened the way of restoration with The Father, if we will come to The King. We His children are also now His ambassadors out in the harvest field of people.
"So we are Christ’s ambassadors, God making His appeal as it were through us. We [as Christ’s personal representatives] beg you for His sake to lay hold of the divine favor [now offered you] and be reconciled to God." 2 Cor 5:20

Today in the Hebrew calendar it is Rosh Chodesh Elul, the 30th of the month of Av and tomorrow is the 1st of Elul, the last Hebrew month of the year. We enter a time of contemplating the rich abundant mercy and grace of our LORD. It is a time to lay aside everything that may be a hindrance to our spiritual walk and relationship with The Holy Spirit. At the end of 30 days of Elul we enter the month of Tishrei, with the Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) or Rosh Hashanah, and then The Day of Atonement ( Yom Kippur). There is such richness in the Scriptures for these special times. These Biblical Feasts are highly significant and prophetic as we live at the end of this age, the church age, right before the great trumpet ( shofar) shall sound.... Let us remember that GOD, The Holy One of Israel, does not use the man made Gregorian calender. He uses His own Hebrew Calender for the measurement of time. I pray that during these days of Elul you and I will fall ever more deeply in love with The Beautiful One, The LORD GOD Himself and delight our soul in the abundance of Him. Selah. Shalom shalom.

It's easy to read Genesis 15:9-10 and think you have understood it, but oh there is such hidden beauty in these words. Firstly GOD Himself passes through the slain and separated carcasses of a heifer, a goat and a ram declaring His own death should He ever violate the covenant with Abraham sworn in blood. The two birds however are not cut in half. Why?
The answer lies in the Hebrew text. The first bird, a turtle dove is in Hebrew "tavar" meaning to search out or investigate. It is a term used to search out one's heart in order to discover the truth. The second bird, often translated as "young pigeon" is "gozel" in Hebrew meaning a vulnerable fledgling or chick and it's gentleness, and it also means to pass over something. These 2 birds were not cut in half because they represented The Holy Spirit Himself. He searches out our hearts desiring truth. ( See Psalm 51:6 and Proverbs 20:27). He convicts us of sin and when we confess our sins and repent of them the precious priceless blood of Messiah cleanses us from all sin ( 1 John 1:7-9). Because of the blood of the Sacrificial Lamb of GOD He passes over the sin, just as He passed over the houses with the smeared blood of the slain lambs in Egypt. (Note that all 3 animals used in the blood covenant with Abraham were later animals used in sacrifices in the Temple.) The third word usually just translated as "birds" is the Hebrew word "tsiphar" meaning a happily chirping singing bird dancing or jumping about! These chirping skipping birds represent the joyful, singing and skipping heart of Abba, Father GOD when we receive the blood sacrifice of Yeshuah, Jesus Christ, and are cleansed and redeemed, reconciled to Himself. Hallelujah! Next time you hear and see the chirping sparrows skipping about remember the heart of our LORD, and His joy over ever repentant sinner. See Luke 15:7

Key Scriptures today:
Psalm 40:6
Exodus 21:1-6
Deuteronomy 15:12-17
Why piercing?
Why a door?
Why an ear?
The process was this: The slave, who for the reason of love wished to serve his master voluntarily, would be taken to a doorframe. Then a martzayah – something that is used to bore a hole (the word is only used in these two descriptions in the Bible) would pierce or bore a hole through the skin of the earlobe, marking the flesh permanently.
Paul says in Galatians, “I carry the scars of Jesus on my own body.” (Gal 6:17 ISV) The word for scar here is στίγμα – stígma. Here is the Strong’s Definition: from a primary στίζω stízō (to “stick”, i.e. prick); a mark incised or punched (for recognition of ownership), i.e. (figuratively) scar of service:—mark.
The concept of bringing your servant to a door in order to carry out the whole operation is also quite interesting. The New Testament word for door appears 39 times, and is a fascinating study in itself. Yeshua says twice, “I am the door” in John 10
Blood on the doorframe is one of the most iconic images of this transfer from slavery into following a new Master in freedom. The blood of the Messiah from his pierced flesh on the cross, the blood of the Passover lamb on the lintels, and the blood of the slave who for love agrees to serve his master willingly. In Leviticus 8:1 and 14:1-4
we have priests made holy to the Lord by their ears, thumbs and big toes being made holy with blood from the sacrifice, and then leprosy, a picture of sin in the Bible, cleansed and atoned for by blood applied to the same places, followed by anointing oil applied on top.
Our hands signify our deeds, our feet represent our walk, and our ears signify obediently hearing and obeying our Lord. It is a double picture of a life thoroughly cleansed and consecrated to God. Sin is atoned for, and the body is ready for service to The One Who has set us free from slavery to the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). Ear surrendered to The Heart of The Master, our Owner, ever ready to both hear God’s bidding and to carry it out with a joyful generous heart of thanksgiving. Selah.

The Hebrew word for in Psalm 37:23 means both a journey and an ankle bracelet which was worn by wives, rather like we wear wedding rings today, as a sign of covenant commitment, conviction of belonging to another. As we walk in covenant love with The LORD, He establishes the path we tread and delights in our journey, because we walk it through together in covenant love.
