What's In A Name Part 3 Genesis 14 :1-3 Four kings from the east conquer 5 Cannanite city states including Sodom and they captured Lot, the nephew of Abraham. Everything in the Scriptures is there to teach us. We should avoid glossing over the Hebrew names. Their names tell us much. Let's look at the names of these kings and the places they were from. Amraphel means "dark words", or "sayer of darkness" King of Shinar which was the place where the tower of Babel and Babylon was built. Shinar means "revolution" symbolizing rebellion against the Divine Order of GOD. In Scripture Babylon represents this world system which is in total rebellion against GOD. Revelation 18 tells us that it will be destroyed. The Hebrew names of these kings reveal to us the demonic opposition we face in this world system as believers on The LORD Jesus Christ. See Job 22:21 and James 4:7 Next king: Chedorlaomer means "servant of the goddess Lagamar" whose name means "no mercy" See Psalm 103 :8 Ephesians 2:4-5 He was King of Elam which means "high, distant and hidden" Here we have the first indication of Gnosticism, an anti Christ spirit working in the earth. Gnosticism is the belief of attaining secret knowledge and mystical insight and believes that salvation is not through faith but through obtaining distant lofty and mystical knowledge. Salvation however is through faith in the atoning sacrifice of sin through the physical death of the physical GOD-fully human man Jesus Christ.. See 1 Timothy 6:20-21 Colossians 2:8 1John 4:2-3 Next king: Tidal means "knowledge of elevation" King of Goliim which means "nations" or "peoples" Again this gnosticism in the nations. Next king: Bera means "son of evil" King of Sodom which means "to burn" Next king: Birsha means "son of wickedness" King of Gomorrah which means "gripped or bound by fear". Fear as in terror is a spirit and in not from The Living GOD. Satan is the terrorist. ( See John 10:10) See 2 Timothy 1:7 Next king :Shinab means "splendour of the father" What arrogance!
